Make amazingly smooth coffee at home

French Press

This is our preferred method for making hot coffee at home. It’s simple and absolutely delicious. There are just a few things you need to keep in mind;

Use 1 oz ground coffee per cup of water

Use 1 oz ground coffee per cup of water

Grind

You want to use freshly roasted coffee with a coarse, even grind. We recommend a using a burr grinder for the most consistent results. Start with a 1:10 ratio of coffee to water, if you like a stronger cup this is where you want to adjust things, just use more coffee.

Add 180 f water

Temperature

This is a super important factor in getting the results you want. Heat your water to 180 degrees. Many people make the mistake of simply boiling the water and pouring it in. If you do boil your water just add a little cool water to bring it down to temp before pouring it into your french press. It is VERY important not to add water that is above 203.5 degrees as this will burn the flavor out of your coffee!

Wait 4 minutes and depress the plunger

Time

Let the coffee steep for four minutes. Four. Don’t guess. We recommend using a stop watch or any clock with a second hand. (There's an app for that! ) Slowly press the plunger/filter down.
When you’ve finished pressing, serve the coffee immediately. Do not let it sit, as this will cause it to continue brewing, creating a bitter, astringent coffee.

Cold Brew

If you are in the mood for a cold smooth cup of coffee this is dead easy. All it takes is time.

Use 1 oz ground coffee per cup of water

Use 1 oz ground coffee per cup of water

Ratios

Just like with your french press, you want to use freshly roasted coffee with a coarse, even grind. In fact I use the same grind for both. We recommend a using a burr grinder for the most consistent results. Start with 6 oz (by weight) of ground coffee per 6 cups water, if you like a stronger cup this is where you want to adjust things, just use more coffee

Add cool filtered water and wait 12-16 hours

Add cool filtered water and wait 12-16 hours

Time

Pour cool filtered water through grounds to fill your container. I use either a 64 oz mason jar or (if I’m making a smaller batch) I just use my french press. Let it set for 12-16 hours. then filter out the coffee grounds and enjoy your coffee.
